What an unbelievable day! The Sixth Veterans' Day at Swanshurst School was recognised as a triumph by all those involved. How could it be better? The sun shone, the veterans were glorious, the food was marvellous, and the march was led by a 42 piece military band! The welcome was given by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Mike Leddy, Major Sylvia Parkin, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands and our Head teacher, Elaine Kenney. Steve McCabe MP announced that one of the veterans, Charlie Adams, had been awarded his Artic Convoy medal which was awarded by Colonel Glynn Evans of 202 Field Ambulance. Then we had the magnificent march led by the Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh which was a spectacle that few who saw it will forget. The veterans than saw the pupils in two groups of 150 and the pupils, who were excellent, listened intently as stories were told. The day finished with the presentation of nine standards and then last post and reveille led by our wonderful guest band. What a day!
